The Netflix documentary ‘Unknown: Cave of Bones’ explores an anthropologist's miraculous discovery of the homo naledi species in South Africa, who practiced complex burial rituals.

We worked closely with director Mark Mannucci to develop this unique and haunting animation style — a delicate hybrid between hand-crafted cel animation and 3D design. Scenes emerge from light and darkness with shapes and characters fading away into texture, channelling themes of death, burial, life, and humanity.
