Nina Menkes’s ‘Brainwashed: Sex-Camera-Power’ is a documentary that investigates the politics of cinematic shot design, and how this meta-level of filmmaking intersects with the twin epidemics of sexual abuse/assault and employment discrimination against women.

The film works with over 175 movie clips from 1896 - 2020, and in our graphics, we worked with many of these clips to help the viewer understand their shot design, how that relates to the male gaze, and how the design of these shots are connected to one another.
